Whether we have direct control or not over the timeline, a separate timeline exists if you want people to stay engaged and not check out.
In an echo chamber, it's oh-so-easy to control people by deleting comments, using socially taboo labels like a leftist ("doomer!") but it's not reflective of the overall population.
A lot are checking out. It's becoming harder to awaken people and even harder to give them hope that it's worth their time and energy. People are jamming purple pills up their asses and walking away from participating in the systems we're told we have to to win.
There is a very real point where the length of time becomes inversely proportionate to the number of awakened people.
No one around me, including former posters here, gives a shit anymore. I can't even engage with them or provide them information. It instantly becomes "why bother? Nothing is going to be done anyway."
There is no way to deflect that sentiment when all faith is lost. The only way to bring back that faith is to jump start it with a major event.
Even Biblically, Jesus proved himself even while saying "you should have had faith" (extreme paraphrasing, sorry).
