And, stop getting tested for it!
If you've got the flu, you've got the flu.
Vitamins C and D3, Zinc, Quercetin, chicken noodle soup, tomato soup, a hot toddy (or 3 or 4, haha)... and rest. Do what it takes to sleep... if a cough keeps you up then take some cough medicine! It's amazing what the other "C" word--Common sense--can do for you.
And FFS stay home and get well. Use your sick days if you are fortunate enough to have them. Or use your vacay days if you have them and must.
I know I am preaching to the choir. This sort of got away from me and turned into a mini-rant.
Carry on!
PS: notice I didn't even need to say the "C" word.
For cough, get the cough syrup with Dextromethorophan, It's the only thing that works. And Fisherman's cough drops if you can find them work real well.
Dextromethorphan is the right handed brother of codeine, but more effective for suppressing cough. Useful for the annoying cough if you're not bringing up much.
Unless you have a lot of phlegm / secretions in which case you WANT to get that out.
Hydration would be useful then in thinning out the secretions so you can cough them out.
Besides if you have the flu you're usually running a fever and will need more fluids than usual.
Taking in more fluids also reduces the feeling of faint whenever you stand up.
For those with a really bad cough especially if with some shortness of breath - some of the protocols do call for the use of short course of steroids along with antibiotics.
