If Grinder is a boy, why did Russia put him in women's prison?

Wouldnt Russia check what this person has in the pants at the first opportunity?

Russia is not the type to play along with identifying games.

So why would Russia seem to agree this athlete is female?

Russia made an announcement that Griner was going to have a physical to determine which prison was going to be used, but then it just sort of petered out and I'm not aware that they ever publicly disclosed what they found.
