Believing the news operates in bad faith would destroy a foundational pillar not only of their worldview, but of their understanding of the mechanisms they use in daily life. It requires unlearning ideas as fundamental as eating is to them.
They also believe in fact checkers without fact checking the fact checkers. I can’t count the times I have heard “that’s been debunked” by my libtard brother-in-law. When I ask who debunked it, he never has a good answer other than the experts.
