If you cant physically hold it in your hand, you dont own it. NFTs are a scam.. money laundering..
I get the gist of your statement, but anything can be used for money laundering ... NFTs are just "easier" to use to launder money right now since they're new and the market is erratic be it manipulated or "real" (probably a mix of both over time with reality setting in recently).
You can make an NFT for anything digital (technically anything, but in this context, I'm only talking about ones associated with digital assets). The concept isn't restricted to verifying ownership of a 2D image for virtual cards (like what Trump did the other day). I'm sure we will see 3D ones very soon. I'm also quite sure the gaming industry wants microtransactions to be rebooted under a new name ... NFTs ... since all of the fuckers on the left stand to make some serious fucking cash off them.
One thing "famous" people can do is create an NFT for 3D models of themselves. They could be of various quality / rarity (i.e. a lower res one could be licensed for use in games; uber-hi res versions could be used in movies, etc). So long as a game supports whatever 3D model format is used for this (and the game qualifies the NFT as legal to use in the game), anyone can make models for any game ... you are not restricted to what a company offers. The NFT makes sure the developer of the ASSET gets whatever is owed to them for the transaction.
Sportsball idgits are leaving a fucking ton of cash on the table not adopting these things for their digital likeness (they must obey their union though). I don't even want to think what some kind of unique customization for an NFL superstar for an online game like Madden would sell for. I'm sure there would eventually be hacks and other crap that would allow anyone to use any 3D model they want in older versions of a game, but shit like this would sell like gangbusters season after season on consoles.
They're also a way for game developers to allow indie artists to develop characters for use in games ... An NFT officially proves ownership of a digital asset, people could create all sorts of shit for various games and sell the characters as a third party creator. I could see someone literally fucking retiring making ONE hit 3D model for a game like Fortnite.
I'm pretty sure this is what Gamestop is up to ... I am not 100% sure, but pretty sure :-) ... Since gamestop is a brick and mortar store, I could see them having the equipment for someone to take a high-end, 3D scan of themselves and make an NFT, and be able to use themselves in games :-).
This kind of technology can also help secure IP ... the Chinese steal more IP from companies than anyone would care to admit. NFTs can secure design files for advanced products and stuff the Chinese can use to undermine us.
Right now, I agree that you don't physically own anything. You might physically own some fancy looking "collectible" card with a QR Code on it as something "tangible"). I wouldn't waste one red cent on that kind of garbage myself though, but the companies/people selling these things aren't doing anything illegal by selling some kind of NFT ... the buyers are the idiots in this case (assuming they're not laundering money).
Not true. Many people own bitcoin.
Do you own your thoughts? Your soul?
You can own bitcoin (or an NFT) in your head by memorizing a string of characters.
Oh, ffs. People such as yourself making excuses for and cheering on the cashless society that is being ushered in...
WTFU
I also did not have to hand over money to another person, or AI, to pay for my thoughts or my soul. Ownership of such is not the same thing as claiming ownership of digital items. May as well blow your hard earned money away on buying digital clothing for your online social media avatar.
Based
"Oh, ffs" is not an argument.
They are ushering in a cashless society whether or not we like it. They hate bitcoin, you know that right? They're creating CBDC's with which they intend to further enslave the people.
Do you understand the difference between CBDC's and crypto?
And btw, those NFT's that you're making fun of people for "blowing their hard earned money on" are up over 100% in 24 hours.
Nice. I just did it. A fuck ton too. This is easy!
