When I go to the gym, everybody and I mean EVERYBODY, is looking at their cell phone. If they're not actually on a treadmill or using a weight machine, they're staring at their cell phone. In between sets, they're staring at their cell phone. It would be comical if it wasn't so scary. I'm the only one there without a cell phone. In between sets, I either pace the floor back and forth, or I'll hop on another machine. I don't own a cell phone and never had one. I can see how they would be useful in certain situations, but when I look around and see how people are so addicted to them, I don't want no part of it. The next evolution after the cell phone will be the chip. I can tell right now that people will be lining up to get the chip.

I don't have one either, but I use my sons when I travel, in case of an accident or to all triple A. But I am just as addicted to my laptop. It's addiction, and I have to consciously discipline myself. I once stayed off line for 48 hours, and I saw the change in my energy (I had more) I did not get on line till 2001, and I was hooked from the start. Not always social media, but news, some forums, I will be standing at the sink doing dishes and think of something I want to know, random stuff, like a recipe or a gardening or health question, sometimes I will stop the task I am doing to go "look it up", and then I will also play games, chess, solitaire. I am sure as I lay dying I will regret the time I wasted. I used to read a lot, I used to paint, draw, write poetry. Yes, I am a slave, if I want on a religious retreat, I could get off of it, and I wish I could enforce that retreat at home, by myself. My sister said years ago that Bill Gates knew exactly what he was doing. Moderation in all things is kind of hard to practice when it is right there. It's like trying to stop drinking, but making sure you have a flask with you at all times, that never empties.
