With “Trust the Science”, I think the rhetoric there is: “Trust is an act of Faith. I prefer to Verify the Science.”
With “Hate Speech”, I think the rhetoric is: “Free Speech is all speech, even speech you hate.”
The trick is not to get into the weeds with liberals because they think in catchphrases. You have to counter a catchphrase with another catchphrase. A liberal won’t know what to say if you frame their trust in science as an act of religious faith and then take the intellectual high ground of “Verify the Science”. They have no catchphrase counter to this and will likely change the subject to Roe vs. Wade or something.
