In Miami I STILL see some people walking around with surgical masks on. I like informing them that, when they are performing surgery, they should make sure to step backwards a few steps if they have to sneeze, since the mask is designed to blow all the bacteria behind them so it won't get blown into the open wound of the person they are performing surgery on.
(Since that's the only scenario where it even makes sense to wear a surgical mask...)
