John Andre, when caught treasonously conspiring with Benedict Arnold, after receiving the building plans for West Point, was hung in the town square. In one of the stories I read, he was wearing his white pants, and officers uniform, the shit stain was visible for days as he was left to hang as a warning for any future traitors.
