As a budding software guy, I hated him with passion - but not because I was red pilled or I knew his background, but simply because of his business approach to software. But the level of assholery that we knew then and what we know now is of different levels, wouldn't you say?
Oh yes, of course. In retrospect, I have to think he was propped up specifically to consolidate the computing industry around Windows. I was too young to understand it fully at the time, but I'm always reminded of Bill Gates "buying out" Homer Simpson's "startup". Within the last few years, I remember a documentary about the Browser Wars where they were really trying to push a whole bizarre "Microsoft wasn't really a villain" angle.
He's gone from shady business practices to control over our computers to being propped up inexplicably as a "Global Health Expert", and trying to consolidate control over our entire lives.
