I worked for a startup company and we hired a chemical engineer who graduated from our state's engineering school (tough programs) who was a diversity hire. We were working on making a chemical called sodium borohydride (NaBH4). This diversity hire asked me once, what does Na mean? I kid you not. lol You can bring a horse to water...

I remember hearing about the mechanical engineer at Boeing (IIRC) who was fired for not being able to define torque.
