Doing the very same thing? What are you smoking? Slavery was outlawed in the northern states. They went even further, exercising their states' rights to protect inhabitants within their jurisdiction from being illegally kidnapped and trafficked to the slave states to be enslaved.
There were no "exceptions" in the EP. Some solid sophistry there. The EP only applied to areas in rebellion, because they were in rebellion. Don't want to be punished? Don't engage in unlawful rebellion against the legitimate federal government and Constitution.
Slavery was literally growing exponentially and reached a PEAK in 1860. Slavers spent decades doing everything they could to expand slave territory west, south, and even north (see Lincoln's House Divided speech and the conspiracy he described... that's the real meaning behind how he applied the house divided analogy). Why? Because they needed more fertile land. Why? Because they refused to implement crop rotation but instead damaged their land by only planting cash crops so they could get rich off other counties while trying to avoid export (and import) taxes. It was outsourcing to Europeans because the aristocratic, plantation owning Europhiles would do anything to keep their slaves, keep their luxurous lives, and keep their power (over poor white people too).
Slavery was THE political issue from which every other political issue spawned during the antebellum period in 19th Century America. It literally caused the creation of a new political party whose platform was to prevent the expansion of slavery. Hell, the issue even caused national church bodies to split along geographic lines.
Please step away from the Lost Cause propaganda. That koolaid is a cancer to republican conservatism... yoking yourself to the defenders of an evil institution will only make you look like an ignorant redneck and gives our real enemy ammo.
The Emancipation Proclamation excepted Norfolk, VA and New Orleans, among other places. I have found zero black people who have actually read the document. Also, Lincoln said he wanted to send all the black people back to Africa.
I suppose you're a Yankee. The export taxes were extra ones only placed on the South. That was the reason for leaving the union. And it was perfectly constitutional.
Typical of leftists to make up a name, Lost Cause, as leftists always resort to name calling.
I deal in facts and what is actually documented to have happened back then. My family was defending their little farms from Yankee invaders who tried to burn, pillage, and rape the entire South. We had no real interest in slavery, as most southerners never owned any slaves.

Because there was no rebellion in those areas, having been subdued by federal forces and lawful local government being restored.
I have found zero black people who have actually read the document.
Sounds like you need to meet more historically literate black people. I recommend my former professors William B. Allen and Lucas Morel. You do know that Frederick Douglas literally criticized the EP right? He certainly read it, but didn't think Lincoln did enough... of course Douglas would eventually learn to love Lincoln, despite his early criticism and misjudgment.
Also, Lincoln said he wanted to send all the black people back to Africa.
A lot of people in the colonization movement supported such a plan, not because they were racists who wanted to rid America of black people, but because they were realistic enough to realize that there will always be racist white supremacists who would never accept black people as equal under the law. Tell me again how Lincoln's consideration of such a plan that proposed, theoretically, a more beneficial future for black people, out of genuine concern for them, proves that Lincoln was a racist as you imply? Of course right after numerous organizations of freed blacks told Lincoln they would rather stay in America instead of moving to Africa, a place completely foreign to them since they were born Americans, Lincoln no longer supported the colonization movement.
I suppose you're a Yankee
I've lived in 5 states spanning the entirety of the United States, but I grew up and was educated in the heart of the rebellion, South Carolina... quite literally minutes from the hotbead of the May River fireeating shitheads. I'm an American, who actually studied our real history and by the grace of God avoided being indoctrinated by Lost Cause gaslighting.
The export taxes were extra ones only placed on the South.
That's not how tariffs work. The tariff was uniform across the country, albeit it more, disproportionately impacted southern slave states because they exported nearly all of their main crops to Europe and in return imported finished goods from Europe when they could have easily transacted with their fellow countrymen. But of course, "southern pride" prevented them from being intelligent or reasonable.
That was the reason for leaving the union.
You should read the actual secession ordinances and public addresses and letters of the actual secession hawkers. They state quite clearly the reason for their rebellion: to protect their "peculiar institution" (slavery). See Apostles of Disunion for an entry level education on the primary documents.
And it was perfectly constitutional.
There is no constitutional right to unilaterally withdraw from the Union. Take all of that Calhounian bunk theory and toss it in the fire. Should make for good kindling.
Typical of leftists to make up a name, Lost Cause, as leftists always resort to name calling.
You do realize that the guy who literally created the phrase did so in defense of the Lost Cause, in defense of the rebellion? It wasn't some "leftist" created trope. Just keep exposing your ignorance...
I deal in facts and what is actually documented to have happened back then
You haven't given any actual facts. Haven't cited any actual evidence. Just regurgitating Lost Cause propaganda like you did the last time we debated this topic. I do remember.
My family was defending their little farms from Yankee invaders who tried to burn, pillage, and rape the entire South.
Ahhh see, now you reveal what's really your problem. You've been indoctrinated by Lost Cause apologists, as a way to avoid having to admit that your ancestors were either the shithead fireeaters, or got duped by them. Nobody is blaming you for the sins of your great great grandpappy. But attempting to defend them by resorting to lies and distortions of history, is shameful and completely unnecessary. Be better than your ancestors.
We had no real interest in slavery, as most southerners never owned any slaves.
And yet hundreds of thousands of dupes unfortunately died to defend the plantation owners who only cared about protecting their evil slavery racket. In the 1860s south, even the poorest white man who didn't own slaves (which truthfully the majority didn't) still benefited from the system and would rather remain a caste level above the black man, then be declared his equal.
Lost Cause is a cancer. Treatment is readily available. Take the meds. They'll help.

You're just wrong on so many counts. There is no hope. That's all.
Solid rebuttal there. As with most duped by the Lost Cause, you're appearing to be lost beyond saving. Good luck.
