Thank you for posting this!
Had no idea how much things in Russia are like the US.
Because of reading I've done over the years, I've known that corruption was an issue in Russia and Italy, but now we see it's perhaps even more prevalent in the US, and certainly exists in pretty much every country.
''Corruption'' is an issue everywhere.
It's everywhere. In Australia, the big infrastructure road projects get built while rest of the roads are in a massive state of disrepair. The billion dollar projects are easier to skim from than a small crew filling pot holes. 1% of 1 billion dollars is 10 million. Multi-billion dollar project with money going all over the place, it's easy to see that some of it may end up in the "wrong" places.
I know right? The first time I had that mirror experience was in 1972, when I saw a TIME magazine cover that portrayed some Russians. My comment was: but they look like us! (My family looks Slav to some, even though we are Friesian) My dad went on to explain that Russians were very smart and technologically savvy, but he was a red-under-the-bed type, proudly, due to some American education in the 50s, so he also explained that they were to be feared for that reason. I could never understand that part.
I hated the Cold War.
