It can be done, but requires a big double engine model with enough lifting capacity- a regular passenger/police style chopper doesn't have anywhere near enough power.
My favourite bit of cartoon mechanics has to be the hot air balloon that is brought to a halt by the occupant throwing out an anchor on the end of a rope. The rope is not long enough for the anchor to reach the ground but the balloon stops anyway.
