I'd have thought software would exist that could flip the image to the correct orientation if desired, so everyone doesn't look like they're wearing backward T-shirt slogans and driving in Britain :p

The software exists - in fact, most phones probably have a simple option to 'flip it back' -- but people skip the step. Perhaps they enjoy driving in Britain. :)
