The thing I see about stand up comedy is that every laugh validates what you said in the routine.

It doesn't matter if it's outrageous for some reason, the moment they laugh, it becomes truth. And the laugh can happen before the social inhibition suppresses it so getting the laugh and validating your point is about timing.

Have I got that right?

I think you’re right. If I say something that makes zero sense, they just sit there. So, yeah. Never thought of it like that, but yes.
