70 is not "old" nowadays. 80 is old. Past 80 is super old.
Even 80 isn't all that old these days. All 4 of my grandparents lived until 78 (cancer,) 85 (multiple cancers over a 20 year period,) 88 (heart attack) and 92 (broken heart, loss of the will to live.)
On the other hand my mother died at 55 due to cancer nearly 11 years ago.
However if someone passes in their 80s or 90s, I think everyone can agree that they've lived their life, it's not really an early life. My Fiance feels very cheated that her Father is gone at 69. We all do feel cheated.
I know that 70 is hardly old. I've never thought it was really old because, being the youngest child in my family, I never had any grandparents that I've remembered in their 60s or early 70s. It's not old at all, but apparently the "medical community heroes" are normalizing it to be the age of expiration.
