The star of David is not necessarily a Jewish symbol. It may be the symbol that everyone relates to Israel today, but long before the existence of Israeli history this symbol was used by the Sun King of the Lost Continent of Mu. There are many other instances where a 6 pointed star has been used outside of Israel. E.g. in Japan this symbol is a holy symbol called the Kagome.

Also, during the Civil War, General Braxton Bragg's Army of the Mississippi had two flags that incorporated the six pointed star in them; and also only consisted of twelve stars, omitting the center star.
