I think Matt and the rest of his group probably ought not to be crowing so much until the bill that contains all their 'wins' gets voted on, especially as I keep reading elsewhere that a number of these things won't pass.
Hmmm... maybe you have a point there, but I would think they had to have gotten some pretty firm assurances from the McCarthy camp that the most important elements of the package won't be challenged or held in the balance.
Also, since the attention is on them and the package now, and the full details have been released in the media, it would be bad publicity and show that Gaetz Boebert and others were right about KM all along.
Then he might be voted on for removal, and whether it passed or not it would continue to show weakness. I think KM wants to pass this rules package because it will project strength and he needs to after what has gone down.
The Dems will do what Dems do, which means just a few Rs voting against it (some of whom would likely do it just to spite the 20) will be enough to defeat it. McCarthy might have some influence with them, but that doesn't mean he'll exercise it.
I agree with your thoughts on how that would make McCarthy look, but Pelosi never seemed to care how awful her behavior made her look, and I'm not too sure McCarthy isn't the same. Look how many votes he subjected himself to in order to have his precious.
Actually I think he does need to bring it out to the public so we the people know what they did and can also hold these people accountable... including McCarthy

Just my take on it though.

I think the debates will be awesome. I am looking forward to watching them.
It has been quite awhile since rules were transparently debated and this will be VERY enlightening to see people expose their viewpoints.
