Not at all. You might be thinking of laserdiscs. CED Videodisc were more like albums that could play movies. It worked more like a record player. My dad picked one up at a flea market back in the mid 80s when the format shit the bed. It was under $50 and came with at least 200 of those heavy plastic caddies that carried the discs.

Laserdiscs came out a bit later. Those were crazy expensive vs videocassettes. That was probably the best analog format at the time too. There are some great live music laserdiscs out there that never made it to newer formats (or were transferred poorly) ... Some of those are worth some decent cash due to their rarity.
