We've got this coming up in UK. There is some sort of ban on new gas installations and you are supposed to install a heat pump instead. I don't know why but no doubt some Greta-style fake reason.
Problem is that residential heat pumps are expensive, take up unnecessary exterior space which is a real problem with our typically small houses, and don't work very well.
And they aren't effective below 20F, cannot perform the heat transfer. Must have supplemental heat source if you live anywhere north of, say, Florida or middle Georgia in US.

Yeah my house has forced air propane furnace and electric backup because it gets well in the negatives here.
