Oh he's a good dog(mostly)...steals cookies from toddlers and revenge-poopz in the hallway from time to time, but he's right by your side if you're sick or hurting or upset. I will never put my husband in a home. It was bad enough having him in hospital and stroke rehab. His best therapy has been among loved ones who actually know him and care, and he recoils at hospital staff. Being defensive against hostile braindead robots is no way to rehab.
He sounds like a wonderful companion! Who amongst us hasn't taken cookies from toddlers or revenge pooped in the hallways? Lol.
Nursing facilities are terrible places (not necessarily the fault of most of the employees.) The ones with most patient contact (CNAs, housekeeping, etc.) are low wage workers who are frequently overextended and sadly not treated well by their fellow employees. I was the HR manager in a skilled nursing facility so I had a ringside seat to the circus. My philosophy as an HR person was that my position was solely overhead so the lowest workers are the ones who are the producers who pay my salary so I always tried to help them whenever I could.
Yeah...my oldest was a cna in a LTC until a year ago when she refused the clot shot...she was their most popular cna..put in the most hours, took all the extra shifts, treated her residents like gold. The ppl above her treated her like a faceless number and I hear they felt it when she left. They're still trying to get her to come back. She loves the residents, she'd love to go back for THEM. but the corporate abuse got too much, and constantly standing by, watching the ppl die of the shot was taking a big toll. That kid is a hero to me. As are alot of the cna's in those places.
