I argue with my mom on this issue. We are both Christians.
The difference is that I have a simple moral code that God has given me.
I think a lot of religious people complicate the subject of faith.
My faith resolves around this. It's all I need.
Add in the Golden Rule as well
-
You shall have no other God before me.
-
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images.
-
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
-
Remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy.
-
Honor your father and mother.
-
Thou shalt not kill.
-
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
-
Thou shalt not steal.
-
Thou shall not bear false witness.
-
You shall not covet.
All the other stuff isn't worth the time to argue about in my view.
it's a great law, but the weakness is the heart of man. A great change happened when Jesus rose from the dead as a life-giving Spirit. Now, He can supply us with God is, to meet what God demands. "If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit." "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control; against such things there is no law (Gal. 5:25, 22, 23)."
Love it!!
"Be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect (Matt. 5:48)." We can't do that without God. We were made as a vessel to contain God.
That Christ may make His home in your hearts (conscience, mind, will, and emotions)...that you may be filled unto all the fullness of God (Eph. 3:17, 19).
