I argue with my mom on this issue. We are both Christians.
The difference is that I have a simple moral code that God has given me.
I think a lot of religious people complicate the subject of faith.
My faith resolves around this. It's all I need.
Add in the Golden Rule as well
-
You shall have no other God before me.
-
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images.
-
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
-
Remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy.
-
Honor your father and mother.
-
Thou shalt not kill.
-
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
-
Thou shalt not steal.
-
Thou shall not bear false witness.
-
You shall not covet.
All the other stuff isn't worth the time to argue about in my view.
"Be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect (Matt. 5:48)." We can't do that without God. We were made as a vessel to contain God.
That Christ may make His home in your hearts (conscience, mind, will, and emotions)...that you may be filled unto all the fullness of God (Eph. 3:17, 19).
My point is that we were created as a vessel. When the content of the vessel is Christ, then we are perfect in his eyes.
