If an enormous sculpture only works when seen from one particular angle -

or it has to be explained to virtually everyone who sees it -

it has failed as a piece of art.

Then it shouldn’t be a sculpture. It should have been an abstract painting. Sculptures are meant to be viewed from multiple angles. Failed is an understatement.
