Subsistence farming is a lousy return on investment. The below blog details the cost of raising a 4.7 pound meat chicken at $13.70. I just paid $1.99 a pound at Kroger for boneless, skinless chicken, so 4.7*1.99 = $9.53. I don't know about you, but I have no desire to be a farmer and certainly am not going to pay more for the privilege of adding additional daily chores and work.
Shit. I’m gonna grow food to sell. Who wants chicken, chicken eggs, goat meat?

That said, egg prices are truly insane, but you know what, I use at most 3-4 eggs a week, so again I'm not sure it's worth it.
Economies of scale are real. But you can get a dozen eggs per day with a decent flock during the summer. You can basically live on eggs.
