Nixon was subjected to a lot of what Trump was subjected to. The attacks were nonstop. Every minute of every news broadcast was focused on evil Nixon. He was surviving until Butterfield exposed the existence of the tapes, which Nixon didn't burn. If you were playing by the rules and expected everyone else was, Nixon didn't have a chance.
