I was raised around 2nd generation immigrants, German, Italian, Irish, Polish, !st generation Puerto Rican and Chinese. Born in 1950. We all kept traditions and manners of speaking and pride of our forebearers, but also a pride and love and vigor about the country. Then things started happening and truths leaked out about corruption and lies and machinations of the powers that be, we called them the Illumaniti back then. We are so regional in the USA, I would not want to erase where I came from, nor can I see the charms of a desert environment and the lifestyle or cuisine of north dakota, and each region has its traditions, usually based on the people who settled there and what the resources were. You won't have pancake suppers at sugaring time in Arizona, because there are no maple groves. I would not want to live in a country where the whole culture in homogeneous, where would you start? An Irish Italian wedding is a helluva blast, as is a Polka fest. I miss the Grandmamas and the Grandpapas who taught all these things. As a nation we come together on our Holidays, which seem to always include hot dogs or turkeys.
