The vengeance angle is powerful, but philosophically I think we'd prefer that criminals get saved, rather than perpetrate more stuff that damns them. Hard labor with wages being paid to the victims in perpetuity might be better, slight chance of repentance, else quick execution and eternal torment. Personally my first instinct is go felons! And, where do I contribute to their commissary funds? But in the long game, we are in a spiritual battle.
