Even before I checked into this guy I could've likely told you where he was from. East Side of New Haven, city not county, the zone on the map if you find it will show the small area that starts just a bit east of Yale campus. That part of town is ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY Latino and very very poor.
No surprise here. CT is a pit of dim-witted liberals and idealist ex-New Yorkers who hold tight to their lefty bullshit but don't like to deal with the consequences in their backyards. The liberals you tend to get here are a little different than your run of the mill Twitter troll types though. Very old school, legacy Democrat voters who hate Trump passionately and follow the MSM - but on social issues and economics tend to lean a little more conservatively.
They bitch about gas prices BUT ALSO think government should help people more. They hate crime, are pro-police and a mixed bag on "woke" issues. They don't like change or seeing small businesses close and will actively spend their $ to support those places OVER the big box ones. Very leftist but NIMBY philosophy from what I've gathered living here.
There are A LOT of Trump folks here too though, it's a much more mixed bag than the actual representation would imply. Does depend again on if you're in smaller towns or one of the cities.
I was at BJ's yesterday and the guy ahead of me at the deli counter was letting it rip about how screwed our country is. He said "I better shut up" when I got closer to him. I told him keep it up, don't stop on my account. ๐ Hah
It is horrendously expensive to live here and the gap between haves and have nots is massive. I joke all the time with my family that this is one of the only places in America you can be a millionaire and also broke. ๐ญ Real estate is totally insane, anything that is available in the small towns along 95 or I-91 is immediately gobbled up by NYers who are desperate to leave the city.
The HUD/housing assistance lists are busting out of the seams, it takes half the year just to get onto a waiting list once you apply. Govt assistance is almost a necessity for anyone living here not pulling a near six figure salary. Amazon workers making over 20$/hr that can't pay the light bill. Utterly ridiculous.
For all those reasons and more, CT is one of the only states in America that is LOSING population year over year. Because of that, and the stodgy older left folks that make up the smaller communities around the state I think they've had trouble bringing some of their anarchist woke insanity to the local level here.
So counting the No Habla people should help them with all that local policy garbage they've been unsuccessful at passing to fundamentally transform the southernmost New England state.
Not to mention the regular cheating which needs a boost too; there were actually some quite narrow races here in CT during the midterms which, like the wins in New York, does show that the pro-union legacy liberals around New England are increasingly disillusioned with the modern left. The horrendous influx of crime and the awful cost of living problems in our region are waking a lot of people up around here. I really think they have put the fix in a lot harder to keep these areas blue so they need this immigrant voting measure to continue fighting the trend.
Just thought I'd share a little bit of the suck, I don't know if a lot of people on here are familiar with CT. ๐

Well said, fellow nutmegger here.
