It was when I was wee lad. The cheese they gave out for food subsidies was actual , real cheese and it was good. They didn’t have EBT cards then, or this endless parade of free everything programs. You got certain staples and that was it. This was after my deadbeat father left my mother with 3 boys and she had nothing. She hated having to take subsidies and she was able to get 2 jobs to make ends meet so she could drop them quick. She always instilled in us that nothing is ever free in life, especially when the government is involved.
