I'm really not a fan of this argument. The Democrat and Republican parties of the 1800s and early 1900s have nothing to do with the parties today.
I understand how tired people get with Democrats constantly calling us racists, but this is just not correct.
The Republican party of today barely resembles the party Reagan presided over. And that was only a few decades ago. And Democrats have not always been toeing the line to Communism, just look at JFK.
Abraham Lincoln was a believer in big government, he started some of the big departments, like the Department of Agricultural, introduced the Income Tax and didn't respect states rights. I would like to see some Republicans today try to run on that platform.
People alive today are not responsible for what people in the past did. That's the position that dems take with wanting reparations for slavery. No one alive today is responsible for the actions of anyone in the past.
So trying to lay the blame for actions of Democrats in the 1800s on to the Democrats today is just as wrong as wanting reparations paid to people who were never slaves.
It might make people feel better about being called racist by Democrats and might be amusing to point out some historical facts to people who don't know their history, but it flies in the face of the idea that people today aren't responsible for the actions of people living long ago.
And I say this as someone who was born and raised in the Deep South with many ancestors who fought in the Confederacy. Just try telling some of my cousins that our ancestors were like the Democrats of today, and you might be flossing boot leather out of what remains of your teeth for the next month. 😁

100% totally agree,..!
A political party is like a car. How it drives and where it goes depends on who is driving it.
Good analogy.
