Fuel and Electricity seems to be the biggest cows to milk, the 2 industries they're willing to murder, because I've heard of many who found new ways of obtaining free energy to run vehicles, and they've all died in weird circumstances. There is no need for batteries to run an electric cars, there are other technology like hydrogen, water, and such..look it up.
Hydrogen is a fuel. Water is the result of hydrogen combustion, not a source of energy. You might look that up.
But if you are thinking of using fuel cells (hydrogen-air electrochemical reaction), then it could make sense. You still have similar problems arriving at lightweight, efficient fuel cells. And creation of a hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure. In the end, hydrocarbon fuels and internal combustion engines are still the most practical and economic approach.
