Man. It's not fair to fall apart as we get older.
It's a bit annoying. I'm a little ahead of you at 51. When the lens shit hit I was like DAMN IT (and I've always already had glasses since like 5th grade anyway, nearsighted plus astig in one eye).
To be honest, the way I look at it is I've had a few dumb close calls (like near-misses where could have been in a BAD wreck or what have you) so I view every day after 50 with stuff still working more or less as a bonus as I coulda died a few times already. Not sure if this perspective helps or not LOL.
Edit: One interesting thing, I think our brains out-evolved our bodies. I.e. we used to die before everything crapped out generally. Lens hardening never would be thing if living till 30 was old, for example.
I had the same vision problems. LASIK fixed them for a few years, but all of a sudden last year I realized I have to hold everything at a certain distance.
I'm grateful to be alive, no doubt! I deal with issues from a wreck I was in years ago and they slow me down more than I want them to. I wish I would have had my current mindset about 15 years ago, though. I had to mature with time.
Yeah when I looked into LASIK - I almost did it - I didn't like the flap part, as well as the small chance of bad stuff like dry eye etc - I have pretty bad luck so if there's a chance.... And yes the fact that it wouldn't be permanent, though admittedly it would be nice if I had good distance vision at least. My lady friend did it where they fix one eye (which IMO I'm not sure how well THAT works as you use one eye for close and one distance = how does depth crap work?) and she doesn't need any glasses, but again I'm skeptical of this whole approach....
Grateful/maturity - I am gradually getting there LOL. Probably around 85 I'd say....
