I’m curious why they’d hang onto incriminating evidence though. If Obama, Bush, etc can take those documents home, what’s to stop them from having a nice little sit by the fire pit to burn their baggage? Doesn’t seem like confidential info is being tracked well so how could anyone know what they’ve discarded?

This i believe is a big reason why they keep going too hard after Trump on bogus evidence- they simply cannot conceive that active can "make it" without having been seriously compromised. They keep assuming his blackmail trove has been more effective than his opponents' but that THIS TIME they'll find his dirty laundry. And he just doesn't have any.
Because these documents don't trust detail their crimes but the crimes of their entire network which they were the head of. Those documents represent blackmail leverage against and ensure the silence of every single person on down there sick and demented chain of command. I could see wanting to keep all the “incriminating evidence” from being discovered to save face and prevent a very public and embarrassing scandal from coming out, but is bringing all “the evidence” with them really about shielding themselves from being criminally prosecuted? Didn’t they all pardon themselves and all their cohorts before leaving office? Is there a limit to what and who can be pardoned? As the president, can you pardon family and friends that have committed treason? So many questions...
Evil people will only cooperate with other evil people when both sides have leverage over each other. Chances are those documents also incriminate many other parties, not just themselves.
