Right? It's so sad-- the cali of my youth was amazing-- LA county school district we were allowed to work ahead-several grades ahead, Always something to do outside too- great pla e to grow up- but it only exists in my memories now 😔

Same. I was in LAUSD but mostly in FUSD...I hardly ever felt afraid or threatened. Sheltered bubble maybe. Regardless, we played in the yard, drank from the hose, came back when the street lights went on, and drove to the beach at midnight and never were we bothered.
