Thiamin.
Also known as Vitamin B1.
You typically can't get enough of it by eating vegetables and fruit. You need to get it from red meat. Bloody, red meat. And some fish. Particularly from organs of animals, like liver, kidneys, hearts, etc.
Why does this matter?
Because one thing that cats need more in their diet more than anything else is Thiamin. If they don't get it, their muscles break down, their fur turns ragged and falls out, teeth decay, eyes stop working, and eventually they go all bonkers.
That's why they fortify cat food with Thiamin.
A lot of Thiamin.
So much so that if humans ate cat food they could die due to liver poisoning. It's also why you can't feed dogs cat food or cats dog food. Dog food doesn't have enough Thiamin to work for cats.
That's because cats normally would be eating a ton of small rodents whole to fulfill their needs. As a result, cats evolved to not produce as much Thiamin on their own, and so if they are deprived of a source they're well screwed.
Which also means, vegans who feed their cats an all vegetable diet are literally torturing and starving their cats to death.
Now, why does this matter with us humans?
Because we need Thiamin too. They put it in cereal, but vegans can't eat that because the majority is not "vegan."
One of my teachers in high school was vegan. Also, an obvious Communist who came here with her husband from the Czech Republic after they stopped being Communist enough for her, but that's another story.
She was pale, emaciated, had ragged hair, a perpetual cough, and smelt like stale donuts. It's obvious to me now, she was severely B1 deficient. It would appear that a B1 deficiency can lead to delusions such as Communism and wanting to teach in an American high-school.
And now we're hearing about them wanting to stop meat production, especially red meat? Killing the egg market? Forcing us to accept crickets?
It sounds to me, with this knowledge in mind, that their aim is to deprive us of readily available sources of Thiamin such that we become deficient and end up like my emaciated, delusional high-school teacher who thought Communism was a good idea despite living in a nation reeling from the years it parasitized them like a cancerous growth.
Anyways, make sure your cats get a good amount of Thiamin and consider frying up some liver and giblets for a try. Lemon sauce goes well with it, if you need help getting used to the flavor. Who knows, it might be the cure to your specific and unidentifiable illness.
Vegans who force that diet on their animals are almost as bad as people who force the Jab on their children. Almost the same theory, definitely the same results.
Or vegan diets on their children. Remember the story from a week or so ago about the mother whose baby almost died because she was feeding it almond milk instead of real milk?
You know, the nutrition experts and feds have pushed so many nutritionally stupid diets on us for so long, I guess people just do stupid food things without researching whether they will kill you, your child or your pets.
I posted "Vegan is a mental illness" awhile back and triggered many. .apparently there are vegans/vegetarians even at GAW
Unfortunately, the ones that die prematurely are replaced by a younger version almost immediately.
She'd have to see a doctor to get labs done. Though, I'm convinced labs lie about vitamin B results.
Even then, if she has a genetic disorder called MTHFR Deficiency, being vegan could actually kill her and the doctors running those labs would be none the wiser. She'd have to get a genetic panel to see if her body can produce vitamin B9 (methylfolate), let alone B1, 12, or any of the others.
Any creature that has canine teeth cannot get the proper vitamin B nutrition from vegetables and fruit alone. It has to be supplemented somehow. Even if she supplemented vitamin B, she'd have to gobble a fistful of pills each day, all likely sourced from animal parts anyways.
I got nothing against vegetarians if they just swear off meat and are okay with eggs, milk, and the occasional fish. When you go vegan, however, you're basically flipping off human anatomy and assuming your body can work magic on plants. Our brain matter requires amino acids and proteins in order to function correctly. The reason most herbivores are so dumb is because they cannot get their brain fat enough to form neural connections.
It doesn't even save you from getting overweight, either. My cousin is a vegan but she eats an insane amount of carbohydrates. She's got a pear-shaped body and I'm certain if she had to ride a plane at this point she'd need to buy two seats. Doesn't eat meat, but still fat... There's really no upside to veganism except a false sense of moral superiority.
Er, don't you mean Taurine? Cats need that more than anything.

Both, I suppose.
Yeah vegans tend to get that sunken eye or dark circles, and emotionally unstable. Also their skin turned a weird color. I used to watch High carb Hannah on YT and her skin color seems off, no blush healthy red on her face.. just weird. And her hair is thinning out real fast.
might I add girls usually stop the vegan diet when their period stops for awhile and that's when they will start panicking.
Chicken liver pate is ok on a cracker or crusty bread. I will boil some chicken gizzards in a broth but I don’t often eat them I do eat the broth. I can eat brauchwager liver sausage but cow organs and pig organs gross me out.
Also vegans are crazy they smell weird and they eat a bunch of non sustainable fake foods designed to remind them of what they really want to eat...meat. Most of them live on junk food. No I can’t have that cheese or butter, I can eat that little Debbie oatmeal pie though there’s no animals in that!
My wife loves gizzards. Sometimes she adds rice to make soup. Sometimes she adds gizzards to homemade chicken and rice soup. I have to fish the gizzards out of my bowl and toss them into her bowl, as I don't like any organ meat except for calf liver. Fried liver and onions with gravy is fantastic.
The RDA of B1 is 1.2mg daily. When you look down the list at this link, actually, the higher-profile foods are not meat: https://www.nutritionadvance.com/foods-high-in-thiamin/
Depends on the accessibility. Look up how methylfolate (vitamin B9) supplementation is needed for some people and you'll see how even given a form of Vitamin B directly, some can't metabolize it.
It may be in the seeds and vegetables, but if it's locked in another molecule then you'll never get it. It's kinda like chelated metals. You could flood your system with a nutrient, but if your body can't get the extra gubbins off of it for whatever reason it'll go right through.
Also, I personally find the RDA scale is a charade that is actively lying to us to keep us vitamin deficient. Who determines what is the recommended daily amount? Are we to assume they don't have an agenda? One look at the original food pyramid shows how lobbying can produce an insane diet to follow.
It recommended 6-11 servings of bread, grain, rice, and pasta a day. Grain producers lobbied to have it that way. That's way too much bread for a healthy diet... It's not about health, it's about convincing people to buy what they're selling.
I suggest chicken liver pate, because you can add onions, some prosciutto, Marsala wine, cream and egg to it. I hate liver but I can eat this!!
The vegan thing confuses me. My wife is a dedicated vegan which means I, as the official family cook, am mostly vegan as well simply because I’m not cooking one meal for her, one for me and yet another for my two picky-ass kids. I don’t mind it. I enjoy the food, get plenty of protein etc don’t really miss meat or dairy etc…but if I really feel like having some steak or eggs or whatever, I’ll have it.
What confuses me is that the meat and dairy industry absolutely IS as corrupt and inhumane as any and all the others. “Organic” and “pasture raised” is a sham.
I dunno…seems like no matter how you choose to eat, it’s the wrong thing to do.
Yet there used to be a pet food in the 70s called Twin Pet that showed a cat and a dog on the label and claimed you could give it to both. Years later, the cat was taken off the label, and the grocery store now has it in the dogfood section.
Yes, I have a crap ton of trivia stored in my head that occasionally becomes relevant. :)
you CAN have vegan pets: rabbits, hamsters, sheep, etc. what you can't do is convert a carnivore into and herbivore.
I agree we ALL should get at least 2 breeding pairs of very vegan cows as pets then to keep down on the fart pollution we need to butcher two every year. Yum!
All of my non vegetable food is vegetarian.
Simple.
I fry liver with bacon and onions, it's delicious.
