She could have had gamma knife surgery which is laser radiation. It's used when the tumor is in a hard to reach spot for regular surgery.
They screw a square track to your head and then you lie down awake, they take the track they screwed in your head and align it to the laser treatment. Takes about 20 minutes or so.

I'd want to be put to sleep for that. Hell, I was nervous getting LASIK.
It wasn't bad to be honest. The worst part was when the took out the screws and the pressure in my head was unbearable for about 15 minutes.
