Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an intergral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on it's evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I tried. For almost 3 weeks. Yesterday morning I came off the caveman carnivore diet and rushed out to get some fruit and veg. Interesting experiment, but its not for me. I think the benefits are overhyped; great if you want to lose weight, which I didn't need to. Can't believe people do it for long periods, seems like a punishment. Think I'll go with keto. ...With the occasional treat of fish and chips!
Here is what I works best for me. Make sure you have 12-14 hours between last meal of the say and first meal of next day. Cut off all artificial sugars as much as possible. Keep sweets to a minimum, preferably natural sweets for cooking etc. Eat just moderate portion which is balanced carb, proteins, fat and veggies, during the 8-12 hour window. And keep your pH level slightly up.
Thats it. To me its been working wonders. Feel so much healthier, long time gout disappeared, more energetic, and lost some weight as well.
Do you include Xylitol and Stevia in the artificial sugars category please? I've always had doubts about Erythritol, guess the rest are as bad being highly processed.
Yes, I agree. But for many peeps it is an easier route for them to give up carbs completely, than practice moderation. I think there are tons of micro nutrients in fruit and veggies, and our brains need the natural sugars. Every time I have tried the heavy meat low carb route I couldn't stick to it for more than a few days. I do think eating minimum grains is excellent for health. But that is easier said than done. Especially avoiding wheat, which I love...
As long as its respectful and everyone is having a good time, there is no harm in back and forth or even spirited discussions!
Agreed. Food should be enjoyed, not endured.
well said!
My mom and I started a low-carb diet. Not strict keto, but just low carb. It’s amazing how many carbs you needlessly eat, and it makes you sluggish and tired. Once I started looking at carbs on products, I decided if I was going to eat carbs, I would make it worth my while. One strawberry pop tart has 38 carbs in it. 38! Needless to say, I am no longer eating pop tarts. If I’m gonna have 38 carbs, it’s going to be some type of a chocolate mousse or something worthwhile. Those type of desserts are few and far between, but worth every bite. I hope you find something that you enjoy, and the low carb is working great for me and my mom.
Interesting. Good luck on your journey.
I'm currently on ketosis, no carbs or sugar whatsoever for a week, and feeling tense. The good thing is no more feeling bloated or sluggish. Wake up wide awake immediately every morning, less appetite, no farts or burps (lol) and plenty of energy.
I’m happy to hear that working out for you. I hope you’re able to continue on with that as needed. Without all the sugar, we just do better. All the way around.
Low-carb very low sugar is the best diet I have come to believe. Have you tried this with IF?
No, I haven’t tried intermittent fasting. I tend to have low blood sugar, and when I don’t eat, I get really cranky. And you don’t wanna be around me when I’m cranky. My mom thinks me… That I don’t do intermittent fasting. 😆😂🤪
What is IF?
Probably intermittent fasting.
Think its intermittent fasting.
Exactly. Have something that's worth the carbs every once in a while.
