Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an intergral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on it's evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
We have a based new neighbor that moved in. They own a farm somewhere in the Midwest, and have this home because they’re snowbirds.
They removed two trees from their front yard, and are kicking ass at remodeling the front of their house. This man is hard-working, and doesn’t mess around. He has a couple friends that live in the area as well, and they help him. I meandered over to their house, and asked if they would help me remove a tree in my backyard. They said they would mull it over.
Yesterday, while I was pet sitting, my mom contacted me and told me that they were removing the tree. Within a few hours it was gone, and when I came home, I cried a little bit because my tree was gone, but it was necessary. We offered to pay some money, but they wouldn’t even take money for gas.
I just wanted people to know here, that there are really good people out there in the world that will help one another. They came in, did the job, never complained, and didn’t even ask for one penny to do it. These are God-fearing, American, loving, farmers. Hard-working folks.
I am so grateful for their kindness, and willingness to help her neighbor. We offered to pay the money, but they wouldn’t take it. Just good people. They still exist.
You are very fortunate to have a neighbor like that. We have two lazy individuals on either side of us 🙄 Wish we could get out of neighborhood and get a nice property with no neighbors that are close, at least a few acres. Wouldn't mind getting some chickens but the freaking neighborhood crap.
Well, we live in a 55 and over neighborhood, and some of the people here are snowbirds. In general, they are the boomers that everybody bitches about. You know the ones… Hard-working, love their family, love America, go to church, will help neighbors for free, basically all-around great people. But muh. Boomers!
That boomer across the street from me just removed a huge tree for free. Didn’t ask for gas, and didn’t even ask for a fee to take it to the dump. We offered, but they just did it because they’re good people. I am so grateful. They’re gonna be here for another month, and asked if we need anything else done. They just keep giving.
I tried to stop by to say hi, and ask if there’s anything I could do for them. I am a baker, I want to make them their favorite dessert! Whatever cookies that are favorites, I’m making.
Um... what state do you live in? If you are close to me then maybe I could ask them to help me with one last tree in our yard.
Just kidding, lol.
After the last hurricanes we had hit us, we took down two (one large & one med sized) in our front yard since the big was leaning a little. Not cheap, but worth it. But we have one more big tree in the corner of our backyard that will cost us well over a thousand to take down. We should call the guy we know that took our other trees down and see how much it will be now, before the leaves grow back. We want to plant some fruit trees on that side of the yard, and if we are going to take it down then now's the time if it's not too expensive.
Neighbor on one side of us has a big tree in front of his house, almost on the line of our property. Well, that tree had caused damage to our house (gutters had to be replaced, not cheap) because huge limbs broke off and hit our house during those hurricanes we had. That was before neighbor bought the house, but he knew about the incident when he bought the house. He told my husband he would cut it down (he's been living there for about a year now). When we had ours taken down, we asked him if he wanted the crew to cut his down. He said no he would take it down himself. Do you think he's taken it down or maintained it... nope! Not only that but he decided it was a good idea to add two more freaking trees to his front yard. Idiot! He doesn't even like mowing his yard. We are in the freaking south, you have to mow your yard like twice a week in the summer. The front of his home is a disaster, stuff everywhere in his driveway and the blinds are all messed up and can see a bit inside from the road and it looks like the rooms are piled with stuff, and the front steps are mostly black from mold, not to mention the backyard.
And the neighbor on the other side of us, is a complete lazy idiot, lord I'm sorry but I just can't even tolerate him. His oldest son isn't too bad, but the daughter will end up in jail for murder one day, mark my words. His new wife sounds like a child, and their toddler is like a bubble baby, never sees the light of day except while he's standing in his window staring out at us. He has damaged his blinds because he use to stand on the windowsill behind his blinds. So, parents just pulled the blinds all the way up and left them there, no curtains or blinds to cover his window. The neighbor never has cut his lawn, he has made his older kids do yard work since they were in elementary school, they are now in middle & high school.
Good gracious why did we end up with two lazy individuals on either side of us?
If your neighbors don't tell you their favorite dessert, then just make them something you think they may like, something that pretty much everyone likes, like cookies, pastries or even an apple pie. Yum, making myself hungry over here, lol.
I really loved your story. Very detailed about your idiot neighbors. Lol.
We’re thinking about planting a fruit tree as well. Fun fact; did you know that you can buy a citrus tree that has three different fruits on it? Well, you can, and we’re going to get one that has lemons, limes, and oranges. It’s just the two of us, me and my mom, so we don’t need that much fruit. Whatever’s left over we can share with the great neighbors.
Valentine’s Day is coming up, so I think I’m going to make some heart shaped press, cookies, and another heart shaped cookie that I make that has strawberry jam in the middle of it. And then you just sprinkle it with powdered sugar.
