Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an intergral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on it's evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Can any one of you recommend somewhere to purchase prescription glasses because I truly believe that since we have insurance, we are being gouged when purchasing them where we have exams completed at? It is becoming highway robbery and would just like to find somewhere to plug in what 'scripts are in and get some glasses in the mail to try to select ones that will work even though I DESPISE shopping online.
I bought 2 pairs from Zenni.com Very satisfied -Progressive lenses, tint, ant-fog. $110
I've been buying from Zenni.com for many years. My doctor always checks the glasses when I go in, and finds them to be accurate. I will continue to buy from them. Single lens are cheapest, bifocals are more expensive, and they do not make tri-focals.
Here's a tip that may be useful. I used to get the half frame glasses, thinking they would be lighter weight. My prescription has gotten "strong". With my last prescription, they said the glasses I chose wouldn't work, and if I would choose a full frame they could make the lens thinner and they would be lighter weight. Turns out they have to make the lens thicker for the string across the bottom to hold the lens in for half frames.
I even get a bi-focal set I call my "computer glasses", with the upper part made to focus at the distance of my computer from my eyes (yes, I measured and took this to my appointment, but she measured again) and the reading part focusing where I actually hold my phone or a book to read. Many of the "standard prescriptions" have me holding a book almost at my neck to read! Don't know what they are thinking!
Glasses USA is my favorite. I have a dozen or so glasses depending upon my mood. They are not the best quality but you can get them so cheap and rotate them that it’s totally worth it and way better than the extremely expensive ones. Now, if you have a complicated prescription they might be harder to order. Mine is pretty simple.
