Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an intergral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on it's evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
It's an ordinary day. We have been married thirty four years and don't give gifts on valentines or anniversary. I think it was more my idea. In my opinion it's just more pressure to compete with friends and coworkers. I've worked places where a few women always got lots of flowers all the time. I see that as showy and seeking attention. We used to go out to eat for anniversary but haven't since 2020. Once my husband was invited on a guy's trip to ride four wheelers and it fell on our anniversary. I told him to go. I've traveled a lot with my family and he stayed home to work and kept the dog. Another thing I don't believe in giving money to the card companies and florists. The card companies and retailers are the reason for the demand.
I'll always have great memories on valentines because my grandma sent us the sucker valentines card in the mail.
Bottom line I want to be loved every day of the year instead of all the attention on one day of the year. We are constantly doing small gestures for each other all year.
Also isn't Cupid from a pagan religion? That's not why I don't celebrate. I only recently learned this.

No judgement to people that celebrate. If it makes you happy do it!
I'm aware of Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Winter & summer Solstice pagan history and they are still big days for satanic worship. I follow a lot of herbalists for education purposes. Most do a flower wheel for solstice. (Don't remember the official name for making those circles.) I have to be careful with who I follow and purchase products. If they post witch items, satanic star, spell recipes, etc I stay away. I believe as long as your reasons for celebrating is pure and not evil/satanic it's ok. Not saying I'm right or wrong. I'm in fifties and I don't plan on stopping Christmas celebrations.
