I'll never forget a bunker tour I took--a freelance journalist blew the lid off of the story. Congress had a bug out place at the Greenbrier--accessible by train. They moved food in and out of it according to their expiration dates. They were allowed to take themselves and just one assistant if TSHTF. I remarked at the time about how lazy that was--no family--just a drone to do their work. There was a crematorium there too and a picture of the White House with a blue screen so they could tell the frenzied masses that everything was ok.

That sounds totally believable, unfortunately.
It's real. There's even a documentary about it.
