Yeah ffs...I can remember, in my declining brain years, how my parents required us to read an analog clock before we could even enter kindergarten. Course, that was in the 70s. Now I have a 9 year old grandson who struggles to even comprehend digital. No comprende from my end.
I already know the answer unfortunately....pretty smart kid, actually...he has a scientific and curious intellect. Can problem-solve on his own. But clocks, cursive, emotional intelligence, all m.i.a.
But the parents are all about free-range video gaming at all hours. We babysat them Monday for the holiday...he was asleep on thr chair for 5 f'n hours. The lazy parenting with those two is epic. We didn't raise the dad(our son) that way. Makes no sense.
Have a grand daughter the same way (NOTE: graduating Christian Private School next year)...I asked her to The United States Constitution AND SHE COULDN'T!!!
Then I asked her: What is the Bill of Rights? UHHHH...HMMMM...I DON'T KNOW!!!

Ask your grandson if he can write in cursive or if it's even taught in school. Planned illiteracy.
