So if Jets fly at mach-1+ and their missiles fly faster than the plane are these not hyper-sonic missiles?...what is the big deal many jets still carry missiles from the 1980s that are "Hyper-sonic" by this criteria..... or are they talking about "theater" missiles inter continental missiles.... ?

The term Hypersonic is generally accepted to be Mach 5 or above. Not simply above supersonic.
Ahhh good so it is a bit of marketing...not being a logarithmic step up but a half step...
2 booms, one from the leading edge of the aircraft and the other from the trailing edge.
Very good so super sonic ~>1240 fps.. Of course the space shuttle slows to hypersonic upon re-entry....transisioning from vacuum flight to air resistance.... Bonus question : Who flew the x-15......?
Some good answers in this thread, so I'll just add the trivia that a jet can fire its gun, and then maneuver in such a way that it shoots itself down with those same bullets. Ballistics is a funny thing. Here's the story:
Cool facts! Triganomically increasing the gravity assist through a steeper dive than the projectiles which may have been at terminal velocity while the tiger was not so limited due to continued thrust as opposed to impulse energy!!!!
I want an ultra hypersonic missile to shoot down CCP balloons.
Oh i did not know that (etamology is it?)
Thanks. I always get the study of bugs (Entemology) and the study of the origin of words Etymology confused...
I'm sure a jet flying at mach-1 is well above the safe threshold for releasing missiles. Just because they can fly that fast doesn't mean they can launch anything at that speed.
Perhaps while maneuvering, but under steady level flight the same foreces act on both the plane and the missile.....relativity a bit like tossing a ball in the air whil driving in your car... Excluding air resistance.. Missiles accelerate off of a rail. You are probably correct if considering a bomb though..
what?
Fun fact
Trident II missile=18,030 mph
Nuclear subs carry them.
Mach 24
