At least the cellular network is fairly robust. The tower in your immediate area may go down during loadshedding, but your wireless router and phone will connect to another one close by. All my sisters have UPS's on their routers or rechargeable ones.
I visited my family for 3 weeks in November and December. Sometimes it is quite the adventure to get ready for loadshedding. But it is amazing how adaptable people are. If the power goes at 8pm, you just heard an army of generators being turned on. But at the price of gas, you cannot just run the generator all the time.
Another problem is, many electric items aren't exactly designed to be turned on and off 3 times a day. People's refrigerators, hot water heaters and such are starting to fail. The same goes for the power grid, transformers and substations all over the place are exploding, compounding the issues.
The deep state there has destroyed South African Airlines through corruption, they destroyed transnet, they are well on their way to destroy Eskom. There isn't much else left to destroy. I'm waiting for them to start nationalizing the mines again and suck the lifeblood out of that also.
I was blessed to escape back in 1997, and come to the US LEGALLY. Of course I miss my family terribly, but even with all the problems here in the US, life is infinitely better. There is a reason people from all over the world are trying to get in by whatever means.
From the outside looking in it appears like a classic example of small minded, corrupt politicians exploiting their citizens for personal gain. The only thing they are competent at is stoking division to get elected. But, they don’t care about anyone of any skin color.
What they don’t get is they would personally benefit from unleashing their country’s potential. But, they are convinced their ownly way to maintain power is by keeping the country in chaos and decline.
Let’s think about SA for a minute. The country is run by incompetent people whose only qualification is their skin color. Coming soon to a US government near you...ooops, it’s already here.
I saw a documentary on the whites in SA that have been forced into shanty towns because they displaced or fired for their skin color.
The woman filming the video was there as part of an aid group to help these people. She had brought meat and supplies for a big dinner to cook for them. In one case she asked a little toddler when he ate last and his response was "a couple of days ago", so clearly these people are hurting.
As they were in the middle of the dinner, blacks from a neighboring shanty town came over with their red berets on to say how "we all are brothers, we bleed the same red" all the while they were stealing the meager remnants of the food the charity had brought to feed the whites in the town.
Clearly they came over just to steal the food because they heard a charity was feeding the poor whites. They just walked in front of the camera with their stolen food like they were doing nothing wrong.
The world is disgusted by their behavior and blacks wonder why the world hates them so much.
The equality drive meant that they literally got rid of white engineers. Those people had to move to other countries, like New Zealand, because they could not find another job. My son, who worked in the telecommunications industry, came across the SA engineers (and builders) all the time - their story was harrowing. Fired because they were white. They are the lucky ones, if they managed to relocate, BTW.
In any case, the government achieved equality by hiring new engineers who did not know about things like grid maintenance - same with water supply engineers, builders and farmers. Furthermore, there is the small issue of new electrical installations which are a lovely target for copper thieves, who will gladly steal all the cables for some cash - this from a story told by one of those electrical engineers.
Oh, and that reminds me of Bootygigs statement that there are too many white people in the construction industry. Stupidity has no bounds it seems.
Hope your okay u/purkiss80/
I don’t know how you keep transmitting with the conditions you’re up against. I wish I could do more than offer prayers.

Thank God the ZA government saw the hand writing on the wall and disarmed. Those warheads would have ended up in the worst of hands.
