Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an intergral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on it's evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Admitting powerless in the face of an addiction, or bad habit, and that your live has become unmanageable (this applies to alcohol, drugs or food). Thats the first step. 2nd step Come to believe in a power greater than yourself to restore you to sanity. We call that Power God, who we turn our addiction over to. Food is hard, because you have to eat. In Overeaters Anonymous, the advice is abstinence from sugars and white flour, white pasta and rice. I have known people who once they stopped drinking, turned to food and sugars, and ended up with obesity, and, seeing that the 12 steps worked for the drinking, had great success applying the same steps in eating habits. Protein is your friend, and there is great proof that fats contained in animal proteins actually help lose weight, as fat is burned up much faster Now that doesn't mean fried chicken of course, those bread crumbs and sauces contain a lot of sugar. Read labels, the bitch of it is, is that sugar free foods often cost more, like condiments and stuff. Eat those bacon and eggs, lay off the toast and hashbrowns, cook that big roast, nibble on it all day if you want. Learn about what foods boost blood sugars and what doesn't set you up for highs and lows. Avoid fruits for now, but if you are craving, eat them. ITS ONE DAY AT A TIME, never tell yourself you are quitting anything forever, thats a psychological set up, just wake up in the morning and ask God for help, and thank him at the end of the day for keeping you on track, if you slip up, don't hate yourself but get back in the saddle as soon as possible. Atkins does a protein shake that has very low carbs and it will help curb your appetite. There is such other good advice here also. Here is a link that may help, it's a spiritual journey as much as a physical one https://oa.org/. Best wishes to you, a miracle is possible if you work at it!
