And it screws the bank out of their percentage. Some places even give you the discount for 💸
I've found they're not really giving a discount, at least in my neck of the woods. They jack up the prices to include the credit surcharge, and then when you pay cash, you're actually paying what would have been the "normal" price.
You pay less..... The count is less than otherwise.
The store pays less (cost of business) and passes this on to you.
What would be a good term for this?????
It's a discount in name. They're playing with words.
Yesterday you lunch at a coffee shop for $10. Today you go in to find that same lunch is $11.00, but if you pay with cash, you get a 9% "discount". So that lunch ends up $10. So... not really a discount, they just found a way to say "we're not charging extra for using a card, we're giving a 'discount' for paying cash."
I'm OK with calling it "cash discount".
This can occur compared to writing a check.
I do agree that this is a matter of semantics.
Fraud.
They should have a big sign outside
"A portion of your purchase supports the globohomos"
Exactly. But it's still a discount from the plastic price. I pay cash at local businesses that charge extra for plastic. I use plastic at the ones who don't give the cash discount.
We definitely have that. But we have businesses deducting the 3 to 5 percent if we use cash.
All the gas stations in my town charge less for cash.
This is not what is really going on. "Cash" is a type of controlled opposition. An argument could be made that there are advantages to cash, and they are legitimate arguments, but they miss the larger picture of the fraud.
What you are really being offered with the "cash or credit" choice is akin to choosing between a hangman's noose (A) and the gas chamber (B). Both A and B suck, but the gas chamber hurts a whole lot less and if it has a built in 2000 degree oven, the funeral expenses are free. You even get a group discount with the gas chamber.
B is obviously a better option. This meme suggests you are an idiot if you aren't smart enough to choose the best one, when in fact you should be choosing option D, which is not listed.
