I used to live in a mobile home park on that base and I had direct line of sight to the hangers the BUFFs were maintained in. Pretty cool to see the tails of the planes as they moved around the flight line. You know I was never ever worried about a nuke going off or an incoming missle while I was living there. Heck, I was only ten years old yet I had more backbone than whiney liberals do today. I loved Minot. It was a great base to live on and when I had to move I hated the next base....Barksdale. Way too hot and humid for a kid who was acclimated to a Northern climate.
You forgot to mention the skeeters and the chiggers at Barksdale.
We moved in the middle of summer....July/August. Our mobile home took several weeks to get to Barksdale and we had to live in a popup camper for those weeks. No air conditioning, no running water, no bathrooms. Lots of bad memories about living near Barksdale, yet I consider myself a Southern boy now. Great place to be from, just don't go into Shreveport after dark lest you don't care about your life.
