Try being here in Utah and seeing Romney slide into that Senate seat practically unopposed because most of us here hadn't realized yet that his distaste for Trump ran deeper than just a distaste for his blunt rhetoric, and many of us still weren't sure how we felt about Trump completely yet either. It was like a month after Romney was elected that half this state had this major aha moment and were like "Oh shit. What have we done?"
The only chance Romney has at reelection in Utah now is if Democrats show up in droves to vote for him. Which they might (a lot of former Mormons in Utah become hardcore Democrats as part of their knee-jerk rejection of all things that other Mormons tend to support once they leave the church--very frustrating as a former Mormon who didn't swing that way).
